Brett Mikels: Music
One More Year
(Written by Brett Mikels © 2006)
When can I join in, play around
Do the things my friends do
While I pore over the details, of my life
Searching for a line or two
What keeps me here, hanging on,
One more year
While they’re all off somewhere, spending time
With those who mean a whole lot more
Than sitting in some chair, trying to perfect
What’s clearly not perfectible, no
What keeps me here, hanging on
One more year
I don’t know, I can’t say
It won’t go away
There’s a sacrifice, for every life
Spent chasing down a dream
It’s a constant fight, a race against time
For something you believe
Will I sacrifice my whole life
Maybe, just one more year
Just one more year
Yeah but something’s got to go
And something’s got to give
Cuz’ there’s only so much time
In this one life to live
You can go for it all
Or not at all
Or maybe, just one more year
So when will I enjoy, the work I’ve done
Maybe that’s what the afterlife’s for
You get to watch some home movie, in a big ole’ rockin’ chair
And miss the times you’ve already missed, even more
So what keeps me here, hanging on
One more year
I don’t know, I can’t say
But it won’t go away
There’s a sacrifice, for every life
Spent chasing down a dream
It’s a constant fight, a race against time
Will I sacrifice my whole life
Maybe just one more year.
Just one more year
What’s one more year
